A 220V usage meter records the electrical energy consumed by a circuit or connected load, normally in kilowatt-hours. In a 220/380V three-phase four-wire system, 220V generally refers to the phase-to-neutral voltage, while approximately 380V is measured between phases. Buyers should confirm both voltage values because a meter must match the actual network configuration rather than the voltage of an individual appliance.
Install a compatible meter at the incoming feeder, distribution panel or individual equipment circuit. A direct-connected model carries the measured current through its terminals, while a CT-operated meter obtains current data from external transformers. Consumption can be read from the LCD, collected through a pulse output, or transmitted to an energy-management platform using Modbus, Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
Yes. A common 220/380V wye system provides about 220V from phase to neutral and 380V between phases. Some regions also use three-phase supplies where 220V is measured between phases and a neutral may not be present. Confirm the line-to-line voltage, line-to-neutral voltage and conductor arrangement before choosing a three-wire or four-wire meter.
For a balanced system, active power can be estimated using P = √3 × V × I × PF, where V is the line voltage, I is the line current and PF is the power factor. Energy consumption is power multiplied by operating time and is normally expressed in kWh. A digital meter performs these calculations continuously and measures each phase, providing more reliable data for unbalanced or changing loads.
The allowable load depends on its current input. Direct-connected products commonly support 60A, 80A or 100A per phase. Larger feeders generally use a CT-operated meter, allowing the current range to be extended by selecting suitable transformers. The CT primary rating, secondary rating, ratio and conductor opening must match the installation. Cable and breaker ratings must also be calculated independently.
