Only a clamp meter with power measurement capability can directly display values such as active power, reactive power, apparent power and power factor. A standard current clamp measures amperage but does not provide enough information to determine the actual three-phase power of a load.

Some handheld power clamps measure each phase sequentially with one clamp, while dedicated three-phase analyzers use multiple current sensors for simultaneous measurement. Simultaneous measurement is generally more suitable for changing or unbalanced loads.
